Professional Caregivers To Supervise your Loved One's  Daily Activities

Research has shown that an Alzheimer's patient's  physical environment in which they live can be important in stimulating cognitive functioning, improving safety, and promoting their independence.  Having a professional in-home caregiver can make all the difference in the world in reducing the stress and anxiety not only of the patient but other family members as well.

Promoting Patient Safety

If the patient is prone to wandering, consider installing locks on all outside windows and doors and removing locks on bathroom doors to prevent the person from locking themselves in.  All medications should be clearly labeled and locked up in a secure location.  Everything in the home should be scrutinized for safety.  Lighters, matches, kitchen knives, guns, and any potentially dangerous object should be either removed from the residence or locked up in a secure location along with cleaning supplies and chemicals.

Social Interaction and Activities

Daily activities and interaction can not only help make life worth living for an Alzheimer's/Dementia patient it may also help slow the progression of this life altering disease.

Peaceful patience and persistence are the key to dealing with those suffering from Alzheimer's and Dementia.  Don't expect too much--break down activities into small steps and let the patient decide the pace of their progress to the next step and look closely for signs of agitation and frustration.

Schedule Regular Homecare Visits

Consistent routine visits by a professional caregiver is important but it is also best to have the same caregiver for each visit when possible to help build trust and reduce the chance of confusion.  Nobody likes a stranger in their kitchen however a friendly, helpful & familiar visitor is something to cherish and look forward to each day.

A Quality Home Care Services offers caregiver services tailored for Alzheimer's & Dementia patients including, Meal preparation, homemaker services, daily activities and assistance with bathing/dressing/grooming.  Full or Part-Time--from just a few visits per week all the way to full-time live in care.
